“I don’t have enough time to do all this!”

No, you don’t, but then those who pioneered with the technology over the years didn’t have enough time either. There is no answer to this problem - something has to give somewhere, or you have to give up even more of the little ‘free’ time you have put aside for yourself.

In the end it’s a matter of assessing the cost of not being involved with ICT - as teachers we cannot afford not to be involved - ICT is the future: our students will be using it, our colleagues will be using it, our performance managers and Ofsted will be making judgments on how we are using it.

You could compare it with buying a house. The initial years of paying the mortgage can be very difficult, but later on it does get easier. In the end the hardships are outweighed by owning your own home.

As the utilitarian Jeremy Bentham might have said,
"It’s in your long-term self-interest”
