LEOnet, Redbridge Schools,
and the Walled Garden

Most schools and the Teachers’ Centre in Redbridge are connected to the Internet through LEOnet (London East Online Network) ISP via an ISDN connection. Teachers either have individual password access or a school single password access. Students can also have a password which will only allow them access to the ‘walled garden’.

The ‘walled garden’ is an area of Leonet which only contains sites which teachers or network administrators have put there. It can be searched just like the web as a whole.

The Teacher’s password allows you to ‘jump over’ the wall of the garden giving you unlimited access to the web. Students’ passwords do not allow them to do this.

Here’s a diagram of the system:

How to add a site to the walled garden:

1. Go to the website you wish to add.
2. Highlight the URL in the ‘Location’ box at the top of the screen.

3. Go to ‘Edit’, then click on ‘Copy’.
4. Go to the teacher’s page on LEOnet, and click on the ‘Add Site’ button.
5. Type in your Username and Password if requested.

6. Fill in the relevant boxes on the form.
7. Where you are asked for the address of the page, go to ‘Edit’ and ‘Paste’ at the top of the screen and the URL should appear in the box.
8. Click on ‘submit’ and the site is added.
